FAQs

A: An IVF cycle includes several key stages: ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization (through conventional IVF or ICSI), embryo culture, and embryo transfer. The process usually lasts four to six weeks, depending on your protocol and clinic.

A: Your fertility specialist will recommend a protocol (long, short, antagonist, or natural fertility protocol) based on your age, ovarian reserve, hormone levels, and previous cycle results. Each approach is selected to match your medical situation and treatment goals.

A: Multiple factors influence IVF outcomes, including age, egg and sperm characteristics, embryo development, and laboratory conditions. Your clinic will discuss which elements are most relevant to your specific medical picture. Emotional wellbeing and informed preparation can also shape your overall experience of the process.

A: In conventional IVF, sperm and eggs are combined in a dish and fertilization occurs naturally. In ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection), a single sperm is directly injected into an egg. ICSI is often used when there are male-factor considerations or previous fertilization challenges.

A: Both approaches are used in IVF treatment. Fresh transfers occur shortly after egg retrieval, while frozen transfers allow more flexibility in timing and preparation. Your doctor will help determine which option aligns best with your individual medical circumstances.

A: PGT (Preimplantation Genetic Testing) is a laboratory procedure that evaluates embryos for certain chromosomal or genetic patterns before transfer. It may be suggested in situations such as advanced maternal age, repeated pregnancy loss, or known genetic conditions. Your clinician can advise whether it is appropriate for your case.

A: No test can guarantee future health outcomes. PGT provides additional genetic information that may help teams decide which embryos to consider for transfer, but it does not eliminate all risks.

A: AI technologies can assist embryologists by identifying patterns in embryo images or treatment data. These tools offer supplemental insights that support laboratory decision-making, while final choices remain in the hands of trained specialists.

A: Some tools, such as iDAScore or Life Whisperer, show potential in helping embryologists review embryo characteristics, but they are used as supportive technologies, not replacements for professional expertise. Clinics rely on embryologists to interpret all data responsibly.

A: Family By Choice offers educational courses and a supportive community designed to help you understand IVF processes, prepare informed questions for your medical team, and cope emotionally during treatment. Members can access all learning materials on demand, anytime.
